Dean is admitted to practice in Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Districts of Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota; the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth and Ninth Circuits; and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Dean has always been a member of various professional organizations including state and national bar associations.
